Notice To Magee Alumni

With the 100th anniversary of Magee just four years away, we want to reconnect with all Magee alumni now, to keep you informed on events as they unfold and to invite your participation in the planning if you so desire. There are two meetings that will take place at the school this October. One will be for those grads who would like only to be involved in planning the 2014 Centenary celebrations. The second will be for those grads who would like to be on the Board of the new Magee All Grads Matching Endowment Fund, which will be initiated in 2012. This Board will liaise with student groups, Magee staff and Vancouver Foundation, and will be central in supporting student groups in developing projects that will benefit the community. If you would like to learn moreabout what will be taking place, email Bill Harvey (class of 1959) at bilrv@shaw.ca, or call him at 604-925-9677.

Magee All Grads Matching Endowment Fund

In just four short years, Magee Secondary School will celebrate its 100th Anniversary. As part of the centennial celebrations, a number of former alumni have been working to establish an endowment fund to support students at the school who are involved in socially responsible initiatives. The idea for the fund was the brainchild of Wilson Baker, a member of the Class of 1959. For the past two years, Bill Harvey and Brooke Campbell, also members of the Class of 1959, have been working hard to establish the fund. Together, these gentlemen envisioned the fund to act as a legacy gift from the grads of the first century of Magee to the next with the intention of teaching and supporting philanthropic values.

To date, the fund has been established at the Vancouver Foundation as The Magee All Grads Matching Endowment Fund. Each year, up to 80% of the income from the fund may be used to match monies raised by students for projects that are designated to benefit the wider community. It is hoped that by 2014, the fund will have grown to a sizeable amount through donations from former graduates, thereby supporting a wide range of student-based projects.
